UPDATE (May 6, 2015):

In the aftermath of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25th, the United Nations has appealed for $415 million to address urgent needs facing the country’s population. The greatest, most critical needs over the next three months are medical equipment, shelter, water, sanitation, emergency health, food, and protection.

Thanks to the contributions of generous supporters around the world, BAPS Charities is responding to this call to action. BAPS Charities is working with UN-recognized organizations, who have a presence on the ground in Nepal, to identify funding designation.

On Saturday 25 April 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck an area of central Nepal, while a 6.7-magnitude tremor was felt less than 50 miles from the capital, Kathmandu, causing widespread devastation. Strong aftershocks continued to hit the region on Sunday 26 April. Reports indicate the loss of life to be over 5,000, with thousands of others injured and many more homeless and affected.
