On September 10, 2004, Mr. Bharat B. Bhatt, President and Chief Operating Officer of GreenPoint Financial Corporation, was felicitated by BAPS Charities for his dedication in serving both the people of the United States and India. The function saw hundreds of distinguished American Indians from various fields gather to honor Mr. Bharat Bhatt for his outstanding humanitarian services.

The evening was capped with a moving presentation about BAPS Charities and the current initiative of expanding its school in Maharashtra, constructing 3 new schools in Gujarat and opening up a state-of-the-art hospital in Surat, Gujarat.

Mr. Bharat Bhatt in his speech said, "The more the misery in this world, the greater our helping hand must be. Let us not forget our social obligation to help those in need. I have great admiration for BAPS Charities, especially the earthquake relief work they did. We all have to increase our commitment to this organization."

The function ended with the speech of Mr. Kanu Patel, CEO, BAPS Charities, who spoke on how the organization strived to donate back into the community every cent it received as donation working on almost zero percent administrative cost.
