BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES

The month of September saw the eighth National Walkathon being held at more than 20 centers across North America and Canada organized by BAPS Charities.
With the objective of educating individuals and families on how to lead healthy and productive lives, lives that strive towards peaceful and moral living, lives that build a strong community the year 2004 walk was organized. The theme for this annual walk-a-thon was "Building Stronger Communities." Having contacted around 50,000 corporate and individual sponsors, over 5,000 registered walkers between 4 to 88 years age enthusiastically joined this 5-mile long walk.
While some walkers had participated in the past walkathons held by BAPS Charities, many were coming for the first time and they promised to come back every year to enjoy this event while supporting such a good cause.
One of the walkers commented, "I encourage people to come to the BAPS walkathon next year if they could not make it this time. It feels good to do something for others, to walk for helping the society, and not just for yourself."
The youths organized the whole event, from initial conception to actual implementation. Medical assistance was also organized on the route and arrangements for cold drinks and fruits were also provided at rest points.
With the joint efforts of walkers, well-wishers and youth organizers, this year's walk was once again an outstanding success.
