BAPS Charities
HELPS FLOOD VICTIMS OF GUJARAT

07.01.2005
Gujarat, India

The State of Gujarat in Western India has been hit by wide spread flooding due to torrential rainfalls. Vast areas are under water and many villages have been isolated. According to official estimates over 25 million people have been affected. Responding to the critical needs of the people of the flood affected areas; BAPS Charities has quickly started the immediate relief work with more than 1500 volunteers.

Hot food has already been served to more than 45,000 flood affected people and 30,000 food packets have also been distributed. The BAPS Charities center in Amdavad is coordinating the relief effort with its centers in Atladra, Bharuch, Bochasan, Navsari, Surat, Tithal, Mahelav, and other places in Gujarat.

To ensure the aid reaches the remote and affected areas, the volunteers are defying heavy rain and treading through waist deep waters. In addition, volunteers have also teamed up with the army to supply aid in certain areas. Where land vehicles are unable to trek in the heavily flood stricken zones, boats have been used to supply emergency aid.

BAPS Charities efforts are continually expanding. Currently emergency aid has been supplied to the flood victims in the following areas.
