Launching its relief
effort within hours of the floods that have ravaged over
20 districts of the state of Gujarat in western India, BAPS Charities has continued to expand its relief efforts.
BAPS Charities centers in Gujarat have set up a
relief network to coordinate food preparation and distribution
to the affected areas.
Over 1500 BAPS Charities volunteers have managed to prepare and distribute
185,000 food packets, and serve 325,000 hot meals in over
95 villages while coping with severely disrupted communication,
transportation and electricity services. Meals were also
served on railway stations, highways and wherever people
were affected by flood.
In Vadodara, the
most severely hit area, 50,000 people have been served hot
food, 15,000 food packets have been distributed and 10,000
food packets have been given to the Collector's Office.
In the Sarangpur district, the local administration has
requested BAPS Charities to help distribute 60,000
food packets which has been accomplished in an efficient
and speedy manner. Volunteers have also teamed up with the
army to supply aid in certain areas. Where land vehicles
are unable to trek in the heavily flood stricken zones,
boats have been used to supply emergency aid.
BAPS Charities
volunteers using boats reached some of the isolated villages
and managed to rescue trapped villagers and relocated them
to safer grounds. The relief effort of BAPS Charities
is evolving in all the regions.
