BAPS Charities held its annual health fair on April
9, 2006, in Bartlett, IL. Over 500 people were served by
100 medical volunteers and 50 medical doctors.
Among services provided to the community were blood tests,
cardiograms, osteoporosis screenings, diabetes screenings,
dental check-ups, and eye-exams. Dedicated health and safety
fairs were organized for children and women.
The
Teddy Bear Clinic attended by over 150 children and co-hosted
by Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, provided children with safety
information with the use of tangible, visual aids. Children
were given a teddy bear and taught to perform first aid
techniques. The Bartlett Police and Fire Departments allowed
children to explore ambulances and fire trucks, and presented
children with preventive safety information.
In order to address the unique needs of women's health,
a Women's Wellness Clinic was also made available to female
participants. This included screenings, check-ups, and education
on proper hygiene, self-examination techniques, and preventative
care. All services were provided free of charge and open
to the general public.
