BAPS Charities ORGANIZES FUN DAY FOR LESS FORTUNATE CHILDREN

11.25.2006
Lenasia, South Africa

BAPS Charities hosted the third annual Children's Fun Day in Lenasia, a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. BAPS Care volunteers transformed a field into a children's wonderland with various games, activities and food. More than 1,000 children from 18 orphanages and destitute homes came for this day of fun on November 25, 2006. Most of these children's lives are ravaged by AIDS, crushing poverty or abuse. This day's event offered these children a chance to enjoy themselves and just be kids.

When the children arrived in their Children's Fun Day T-shirts, they learned about Indian culture through short presentations and activities. After a hot breakfast, the children participated in various games and attractions including jumping castles, a 35 meter giant slide, an animal farm with horses, pony rides, carousels, Ferris Wheels, a dunking machine, a steam train, soccer, face-painting, storybook reading, coloring, beadwork, clowns, magicians and performing poodles.

The day of fun concluded with a BAPS Care volunteer, dressed as Santa Clause, giving each child a bag of gifts. For many, it would be the only gifts they received for Christmas. As the children boarded their buses, the smiles on their face and their innocent laughter made it clear that they had enjoyed their day of fun and food.

The Children's Fun Day was created three years ago by a group of BAPS Care youth volunteers who wanted to offer hope and provide a fun day for disadvantaged children. With the support of BAPS Charities and assistance of Art of Living Foundation and the Transvaal United Patidar Society, this event was successful for the third year in a row, seeing a record number of children enjoy the day.

The following link has appreciation letters from the orphanages brought children to this fun day.
