FLOOD AFFECTED GUJARAT
Summary
of Relief Efforts (As of August 19, 2006)
Relief Material Distributed:
- 324,155 food packets
- 2,76,000 water pouches
- 14,650 people provided meals
- 2 tankers for drinking water
- 17,000 milk pouches and 5 tones of milk powder
- 280 tons of food provisions distributed through 6000
family packs each containing flour, rice, sugar, salt,
spices and cooking oil.
Health Services
- 545 patients treated free at BAPS Pramukh Swami Hospital,
Surat which was most affected by the floods
- 6 mobile clinics treated 14,400 patients and distributed
medicines
Cleaning
Services
- Over 1500 volunteers involved in cleaning services
using 20 bulldozers, 20 tractors and dumpsters
Rescue Operations
- Volunteers using boats helped in rescuing people trapped
on roofs, trees to a safe location. They also recovered
seven dead bodies and helped three pregnant women and
other ill persons to hospital for treatment.
