BAPS Charities, Los Angeles, organized a health fair, blood donation drive and health education seminar exclusively for women on April 9, 2006. 219 participants took part in the fair.

More than 20 medical professionals volunteered their expertise and time. Volunteer doctors represented all primary care specialties and provided free consultations. Computerized registration streamlined the logistics of the event. Lab testing, EKG, body fat analysis and bone density DEXA scanning were among the services offered. Additionally, alternative medical services like ayurveda, herbal, and chiropractic were made available to participants that wished to complement their traditional medicines. Health care resources like help for free government health services and health education materials were distributed to promote health awareness to participants.

The health education seminar used multimedia presentations, interactive sessions, and Q & A sessions. It covered useful women’s health topics, including heart disease, role of diet and exercise, menopause, osteoporosis, breast and cervical cancer, health insurance, Medicare Part D, arthritis, and back pain.

98 participants registered to donate blood and 74 pints were collected. To date, BAPS Charities, Los Angeles, has helped the local blood bank collect 681 pints of blood in last 4-and-one-half years.
