| BAPS Charities DONATES £25,000
TO BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION
In London on May
19, 2007, BAPS Charities presented Dr Paul Michael Knapton
of the British Heart Foundation with a check of £25,000
($50,000).
The funds had been
collected by BAPS volunteers as part of the annual National
Sponsored Walk, an event that raises vital funds for educational
and other charity projects. This year's event - held on
Sunday, April 15, 2007 - was in conjunction with the British
Heart Foundation (BHF), one of Britain's largest charities.
BHF, dedicated to the vision of a world within which people
do not die prematurely of heart disease, invests in pioneering
research, supports vital prevention activity, and provides
quality care and support for sufferers.
At the launch of
the walk, Ian Stewart (Community Fundraising and Volunteer
Manager for BHF), had expressed his gratitude and privilege
to be associated with BAPS, and advised participants to
embrace a healthier lifestyle though improved diet and exercise.
More than 3,400
walkers had covered the 10km distance at 10 centers throughout
the UK, with 2,300 walking in London alone. The route had
been stewarded by BAPS volunteers and provisions for medical
assistance and refreshments had also been available at rest
points.
At the presentation
ceremony, Dr Knapton (Director for Prevention and Care at
BHF), praised the meticulous organization of the walk and
offered his gratitude for BAPS' generous support. He said
the money would go towards arousing awareness to prevent
heart disease and into research for its cure.
