To create greater
awareness of good dental health habits and modern dental
technologies BAPS Care International conducted a month long
dental health month lecture series in Philadelphia, PA.
Every Sunday in the National Dental Health Month of February
2007, local practicing dentists gave lectures on topics
like dental hygiene, periodontal disease, braces, and oral
cancer. All attendees received free children and adult toothbrushes,
oral rinse, floss, and toothpaste also provided by local
supporting dentists and businesses.
Adults were given
this dental health education in Gujarati while children
were given this information in English. The oral cancer
causing effects of smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco,
gutka, paan masala, and snuff in the mouth and gums was
also shown with recent examples of cancer patients in America.
Families were explained the danger of these bad habits and
asked to encourage any practicing family members to give
up these tobacco addictions. All the participants greatly
appreciated this unique Health lecture series organized
by BAPS Care International.
