| BAPS Charities participates in Earth Hour
Earth Hour is an
annual international event created by The World Wide Fund
for Nature(World Wildlife Fund), held on the last Saturday
of March, that asks households and businesses to turn off
their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for
one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action
on climate change. With 28 cities around the world participating
as official flagship cities and over 350 cities also supporting,
Earth Hour 2008 was a major success, celebrated on all seven
continents.
BAPS Charities participated
in Earth Hour on March 29, 2008. More than 500 families
gathered to show their support for saving the environment.
At the event in Toronto, Canada, Puja, a twelve-year old
girl, exclaimed "I like the green parks and the snow hills.
I can't imagine living in a gray polluted world!" The Earth
Hour celebrations conserved power, promoted family unity
and proved to be an entertaining experience. As part of
its power-saving initiatives, a candle lit dinner was organized
for families after the power was shut off between 7pm and
8pm.
Ronak, an eighth
grader, summed up the activities: "We helped the environment,
our families and the world! It's a win-win situation."
BAPS Charities community
centers are constructed using environment friendly materials.
The buildings utilize power saving LED lighting and employ
management practices to ensure energy consumption is kept
optimal and efficient.
