BAPS Charities demonstrating the power of philanthropy and goodwill chose to take an active role in the annual food drive in Toronto. This project was undertaken by children who were further inspired upon realizing that others of their own age were suffering from adverse circumstances. Aiming to help reduce the amount of hunger-stricken sufferers in their community, the children tirelessly encouraged each other, along with friends and family, to donate non-perishable food items as part of the Children's Diwali Party. In addition, schools across the Greater Toronto Area also contributed to the food drive during their visits to the mandir.
Since 2006, BAPS Charities in Toronto has partnered with and supported the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank through infrastructure contributions and volunteer man-hours. This year was no different as the unflinching efforts of the children resulted in over 250 lbs of much-needed food being donated to aid those that are suffering. The theme of charitable giving could not come at a more appropriate time as Diwali not only marks the beginning of a new year, but also presents an opportunity to bring hope to those in need.
