BAPS Charities volunteers run the
New York City Marathon

November 02, 08
New York, NY, USA

The ING New York City Marathon is one of the world’s great road races, drawing more than 100,000 applicants. The race attracts many world-class professional athletes, not only for the more than $600,000 in prize money, but also for the chance to excel before two million cheering spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers.

But for three young volunteers of BAPS Charities, the motivation was very different. Shameek Upadhya (24), Shaunak Upadhya (21) and Vivek Brahmbhatt (23), all from London, participated in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 2, 2008, to raise funds through BAPS Charities for the education of underprivileged children in India.

Shameek and his younger brother Shaunak are experienced long-distance runners but for Vivek, this was  his first marathon. These volunteers are determined to offer an opportunity of education to the poorest children, through sponsorships, to attend best schools managed by BAPS Charities.
