| BAPS Charities Women’s Health Awareness on Anemia
Anemia is defined as a reduction in the number of circulating red blood cells, the hemoglobin concentration, or the volume of packed red cells (hematocrit) in the blood. 2 billion people worldwide are anemic (30% of world’s population) and 3.4 million people in the U.S. are living with anemia.
A study found many of the blood drive female participants were not able to donate blood due to iron deficiency. To educate the audience this health issue, BAPS Charities organized a health awareness lecture for women on August 29, 2010 across North America. This lecture was followed by a panel discussion during which the attendees asked questions to the guest speakers and learned how to better maintain their health.
