Irving International Women's Consortium donates to BAPS Charities

February 27, 2010
Dallas, TX

About 40 women from across the DFW Metroplex joined the first lady of Irving, Mrs. Christina Gears in her session on ‘Irving to India and Back’. The purpose of the session was to raise funds for a birthing bed for the BAPS Hospital in Chansad, India and raise awareness of the similarities and differences between Indian and American cultures.

During the session, Mrs. Gears shared her first-hand account of her recent trip to India. Along with her husband, the Honorable Mayor of Irving Mr. Herbert Gears, she toured several hospitals and schools in rural areas of India. Mrs. Gears recalled several touching incidents which occurred during her trip and appreciated the activities of BAPS Charities in remote and rural areas of India. Mrs. Gears emphasized that all can learn from this to make the world a better place to live in.

At the conclusion of the event, Mrs. Gears reminded everyone that the primary purpose of event was to gather funds for a birthing bed for the BAPS Charities hospital in Chansad. The proceeds from the attendance fees as well as an auction were donated to support this cause.

As a follow up, Mrs. Gears recently attended Women’s Conference 2010 in Dallas, TX as a special guest and presented a check to BAPS Charities stating, “This is the first installment from our organization towards the birthing bed.”
