Sudden Cardiac Arrest kills over 30,000 Canadians each year. Approximately 20% of these occur in public places.Time is of essence for Sudden Cardiac Death Victims. BAPS Charities Canada implemented a special training in collaboration with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the City of Toronto (Toronto EMS) and the Cardiac Safe City initiative to train 16 of its volunteers in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The training increased awareness and knowledge of heart related illness and equipped the newly trained Targeted Responders to help save lives. An AED unit was also installed at BAPS Charities, Toronto Site.
The use of public access defibrillation program (PAD) will assist in delivering the first shock from an automated external defibrillator to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest victim within just 3 minutes. This in turn will help save lives!
