For those living
in remote tribal areas of Gujarat, education was unheard
of. But our volunteers are working tirelessly to
persuade parents to send their boys and girls to school.
As a result of these efforts, many of these tribal students
have gained degrees and awards in Computing, Business, Science
and Arts.
One of the main reasons why parents
do not send their children is because of the distance from
their village to the local school. BAPS Charities conducts detailed
studies of certain area to determine where an educational
complex, including school and hostel, would have the most
benefit to tribal students. As a result, thousands of tribal
girls and boys now have access to a quality education in
our schools.
For example, after surveying the
tribal region of South Gujarat, BAPS Charities committed itself
to constructing a complete education complex and student
hostel in Ukai. Every since 1985, 150 students have been
benefiting from these educational facilities that otherwise
would never be available to this tribal community.
In Surat also, BAPS Charities constructed
a hostel to accommodate students from poor families and
tribal areas.
Once in school, tribal students
are given financial aid to lower the cost of tuition, as
well as free notebooks and textbooks.
Tribal education programs
have also been initiated by BAPS Charities in some of the most
needy regions such as Dadra-Nagarhaveli, Panch Mahal, and
the tribal areas on the banks of the Narmada River.
