Food insecurity continues to be a serious issue for millions of households across the United States. According to the most recent Household Food Security in the United States report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), approximately 13.8% of U.S. households—about 18 million households—experienced food insecurity at some time during 2024, meaning they struggled at times to access enough food for all members of their household. This national prevalence reflects ongoing economic pressures and challenges for families, including rising food costs and insufficient access to affordable, nutritious food. In total, an estimated 47 million people nationwide lived in food-insecure households last year, with children and other vulnerable groups disproportionately affected by these conditions.
In response to this critical need, BAPS Charities held its annual food drive in Edison, NJ, during November and December of 2025. Thanks to the generosity of local volunteers and donors, the drive collected and donated over 1,100 pounds of non-perishable food items, including canned goods, pasta, beans, and other staples, to Middlesex College and Hands of Hope. These contributions will help provide essential food resources to families and individuals experiencing food insecurity in our community.
This donation is part of BAPS Charities’ ongoing commitment to supporting communities in need and strengthening social welfare. Our efforts aim to assist those struggling with food access by ensuring they have reliable, nutritious options during challenging times.
Dr. Mark McCormick, President of Middlesex College, expressed gratitude to the volunteers of BAPS Charities, highlighting the many years of friendship and collaboration between the organizations and the positive impact this support has on local families.
This initiative aligns with a larger network of food drives and hunger-relief efforts across North America during the holiday season, demonstrating how collective action can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.
