BAPS Charities Restores Sight for 50 Patients at Free Cataract Surgery Camp in Nairobi – September, 2026

On 26th September 2026, BAPS Charities, through its Ladies Wing, completed the first phase of its free Cataract Surgery Camp at Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital in Loresho, Nairobi.

The camp, funded by the generous donations and support received during the Ladies Luncheon fundraiser in August, restored sight to 50 patients in need of cataract surgery during this first phase. Patients received support throughout the process, from screening and counselling to surgery and post-operative care. The dedicated medical team at Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital played an important role in making the camp possible.

The initiative brought hope to many beneficiaries who had lived with poor vision for years and could not afford treatment. One elderly woman, who had no family support, shared her joy at being able to see clearly again after surgery on both eyes. She now hopes to start a small business and live with greater independence.

Another elderly beneficiary spoke about the fear and isolation he experienced because of his poor vision. He was often afraid to leave his bed because he might fall or lose his way. After his successful operation, he looked forward to moving around with renewed confidence and freedom.

The camp showed that restoring sight is about more than a medical procedure. It can restore independence, dignity and the ability to enjoy everyday life.

The initiative reflects BAPS Charities’ commitment to restoring vision, restoring hope and serving with compassion.

The second phase of the Cataract Surgery Camp will take place in November 2026.
