The rising costs of food, housing, fuel, and transportation are placing immense pressure on individuals and families across Canada. Children, single mothers, international students, and seniors are among the hardest hit, with many struggling to afford even the most basic necessity: food. Nearly 25% of Canadians live in food-insecure households, and this number is rising.
Recognizing the urgency of this issue, BAPS Charities organized a food drive in Winnipeg, MB, and donated more than 1,700 pounds of non-perishable food items to Harvest Manitoba on November 24, 2025.
BAPS Charities also organized a Canada-wide Food Drive, leading up to and during the Diwali celebrations, bringing communities together in the spirit of service and compassion.
Ashley Routhier-Evans, Community Food Drive and Events Associate at Harvest Manitoba said, “Thank you so much for your gift of 1,708 pounds of food to feed families. Because of you, children and parents won’t have to hope for food, they’ll have it. Thank you also for understanding the terrible choices our friends and neighbours are making between buying school supplies or prescription medication, and putting nutritious food on their table. No one should ever have to make these decisions, and you’ve ensured fewer people have to.”
BAPS Charities is committed to serving society and communities in diverse fields such as medical, environmental, community, educational, and humanitarian services.
