More than 700 patients received free medical screening and healthcare support at the BAPS Charities Community Health Awareness Day held on 9 May. The sprawling campus of BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir and Cultural Complex served as an ideal setting for such a mammoth undertaking.
A total of 710 patients were screened during the initiative, while 56 pints of blood were donated. All services were offered free of cost as part of the organisation’s commitment to community service.
The programme brought together a team of 30 medical experts from various specialities, supported by 40 nurses, who volunteered their time to examine, assess and advise patients. Visitors also attended a series of health talks presented by leading medical professionals on important healthcare issues.
Homoeopathy and Ayurveda were also represented at the event, reflecting respect for the role of traditional medicine alongside modern healthcare practices. Sessions in yogasan, meditation and pranayam were conducted by local experts.
Among the key services offered were 86 clinical examinations and 26 mammograms conducted through the Pink Truck initiative, supporting early detection of breast cancer.
A contingent of 70 dedicated volunteers assisted throughout the day, helping manage the programme and support visitors. Many attendees praised the compassionate approach of the doctors and the selfless spirit of the volunteers.
