On Sunday, 13th September 2026, BAPS Charities Uganda, in collaboration with Indian Associations and Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS), conducted a Nationwide Blood Donation Drive across 8 centres in Uganda.
Volunteers from BAPS Charities coordinated simultaneous blood donation camps in Kampala, Jinja, Iganga, Tororo, Soroti, Lira, Kitgum, and Mbarara.
Uganda requires over 400,000 units of blood every year. This is needed for mothers during childbirth, accident victims, children suffering from anaemia, and patients undergoing surgeries. To support this critical need, BAPS Charities mobilized donors from the Indian and local Ugandan communities across the country.
The response was overwhelming, with 807 units of blood collected in a single day.
The centre-wise collection details are as follows:
- Kampala – 130 units
- Jinja – 29 units
- Iganga – 47 units
- Tororo – 36 units
- Soroti – 125 units
- Lira – 47 units
- Kitgum – 318 units
- Mbarara – 75 units
More than 100 volunteers and doctors from UBTS supported the camps. All donors were screened before donating blood and were provided with refreshments and a token of appreciation. One unit of donated blood can save up to three lives, meaning the 807 units collected could potentially help save more than 2,400 lives.
