Winter Clothes and Food Collection for the Homeless and Underprivileged Children, Chigwell, UK

BAPS Charities, Chigwell, collected winter clothing for the homeless in December 2018, as part of an on-going commitment to serve the needy in the local community.

Both children and adult volunteers collected a variety of warm pieces of clothing, including jumpers, jackets and trousers. These in turn were sorted and the packaged items were delivered to Whitechapel Mission, a local homelessness charity in East London. Whitechapel Mission has been serving the homeless and marginalised for 142 years – including through a day centre, skills training and career advice, activity programmes and specialist support for complex needs.

Sheena Patel, a volunteer for BAPS Charities who visited Whitechapel Mission, shared, “At this time of year as people look to wind down and spend time with family, it’s been heart-warming to see the generosity of people who donate their goods and time to collect and distribute for those less fortunate than ourselves. At Whitechapel Mission, we saw great enthusiasm from the volunteers who had truly imbibed the ethos of helping others in their lives.”

Alongside the winter drive to support the homeless, BAPS Charities, Chigwell, donated a large quantity of chocolates and confectionery to children’s charity Barnardo’s over the festive period. Barnardo’s are the UK’s largest children’s charity working to transform the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK. The donations were gratefully received by staff at Barnardo’s head office in Barkingside, Essex, and will be distributed to local children’s centres supported by Barnardo’s.

Jennie York, Director of Fundraising at Barnardo’s, shared her appreciation: “Thank you for the amazing gift of chocolates and sweets. We will ensure it is distributed to the Barnardo’s children centres.”
