Health Awareness Lecture on Physical Activity in Little Rock, AR

Regular physical activity helps improve overall health and fitness, and reduces risk of many chronic diseases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends about 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week. However, more than 52% of all adults do not meet these guidelines. Inactive adults have a higher risk for early death, obesity, osteoporosis, anxiety, depression, asthma, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers.

In order to bring about awareness on this important topic, BAPS Charities hosted a health lecture on July 6th, 2014 in North Little Rock, AR centered on the theme of “Let’s Move,” the campaign launched by First Lady Michelle Obama.   Dr. Maharshi Patel, presented the health lecture explaining the benefits of physical activity, how much activity do adults need, how to add physical activity in our life and information on what counts in aerobic activity and muscle strengthening activities.
