COVID-19 Pandemic: Hot meals served to first responders in New York City

On April 4, 2020, BAPS Charities in collaboration with BAPS Shayona, delivered more than 300 nutritious vegetarian hot meals to healthcare providers and first responders throughout New York City. With reports of tens of thousands COVID-19 cases in New York City, many healthcare professionals and law enforcement are working around the clock to help the affected.  In gratitude and support of New York City’s first responders’ efforts, volunteers from BAPS Charities and BAPS Shayona took the initiative to prepare hot meals for them and deliver them.  Pursuant to healthcare guidance, volunteers followed strict sanitary food preparation, packaging, and delivery practices.

Dr. Gagan Gulati, Director of Emergency Medicine at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Queens, NY, accepted the meals on behalf of the hospital and greatly appreciated the thoughtful initiative. Arjun Modi, BAPS Charities youth-volunteer, said “as we made deliveries to hospitals and precincts in some of the hardest-hit boroughs, I saw firsthand, the toll the pandemic is taking on front-line workers. I’m eternally grateful for all their hard work and the opportunity to serve them.” BAPS Charities and BAPS Shayona is grateful for its volunteers’ efforts to keep first responders healthy.
