On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, BAPS Charities hosted “Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds,” a wellness-focused event in Toronto, ON, dedicated to supporting the physical and mental well-being of seniors.

The event welcomed 206 participants aged 60 and above from across the Greater Toronto Area. The program provided seniors with an opportunity to learn, connect, and participate in activities focused on healthy aging, wellness education, and maintaining an active lifestyle.

The event was organized as part of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which supports initiatives that create opportunities for seniors to remain active, engaged, and connected within their communities. Through this program, BAPS Charities provided seniors with access to wellness education, practical tools, and interactive activities focused on healthy aging.

The full-day program featured sessions on mental health awareness, stress management, nutrition, physical activity, and yoga-based wellness practices. The event brought together seniors from the community for an engaging and educational experience designed to encourage active living, strengthen social connections, and promote healthier lifestyles. Through expert-led sessions and hands-on activities, participants gained knowledge and strategies to support their overall well-being and maintain balance in their daily lives.

The program featured sessions led by Dr. Dilkhush Panjwani (MD Psychiatry), who delivered an informative mental health awareness session, and Devyani Patel and Satyendra Patel, certified yoga instructors who guided participants through wellness and physical activity sessions.

The event began with registration, a welcome session, and breakfast, providing participants with an opportunity to connect with one another and build relationships within the community. The opening session focused on the importance of maintaining a healthy heart and mind throughout the aging journey. Participants learned about the connection between physical health, emotional well-being, and quality of life, along with the importance of maintaining positive habits, staying active and engaged, and continuing to share their knowledge, experience, and skills with younger generations.

A key component of the workshop focused on yoga, breathing exercises, and the role of regular physical activity in promoting healthy aging. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals and history of yoga, different types of yoga practices suitable for seniors, and the benefits of yoga and pranayama for physical and mental wellness. The session highlighted how regular movement, stretching, and breathing exercises can improve flexibility, mobility, relaxation, and overall health.

The practical yoga session provided seniors with an opportunity to participate in light exercises, stretching routines, and guided yoga activities. Participants learned simple exercises that could be incorporated into their daily routines to support independence, maintain mobility, and enhance quality of life.

Another highlight of the event was the mental health awareness session. The session addressed important aspects of senior mental health and overall well-being, including the relationship between physical health and mental wellness, understanding stress and its symptoms, strategies for stress management, and the importance of healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices.

The session also discussed ways to enhance quality of life during the senior years, the importance of reducing stigma around mental health, and the valuable role seniors play in families and communities through their knowledge, experience, and contributions. Participants gained practical strategies to better manage stress, maintain healthy routines, and support their emotional well-being.

Throughout the workshop, seniors had opportunities to interact, share experiences, and strengthen community connections. The program emphasized the importance of staying physically active through age-appropriate activities, maintaining social connections and community involvement, continuing to learn and participate in meaningful activities, and supporting overall health through positive daily habits.

The event received positive feedback from attendees, who appreciated the opportunity to learn practical wellness strategies and participate in a supportive community environment.
