On June 28, 2025, BAPS Charities brought the community together in Toronto, Ontario, for its annual “Spirit of Service: Walk-Run.” This inspiring event encouraged participants to step forward in support of the life-saving work of two National Beneficiaries: the William Osler Health System Foundation and the CNIB Foundation.
This year’s walk united over 1,000 community members who came together to raise awareness and funds for health initiatives and other charitable activities organized by BAPS Charities. The event showcased a broad spectrum of participation, from youth to seniors, united for a common cause.
Special guests included the Hon. John Zerucelli, Secretary of State (Labour) and Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North; Councillor Vincent Crisanti, City of Toronto; Allison Smith, Director, Campaign for William Osler Health System Foundation; and Daniel Moore, Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships for CNIB Foundation.
The William Osler Health System is one of the largest community health care systems in the country, comprising three integrated hospitals: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness.
The CNIB Foundation, formerly known as the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, is a non-profit organization that delivers innovative programs and advocacy for people impacted by blindness.
The event provided an opportunity for participants to promote and engage in a healthier lifestyle, while also reminding them of the profound impact that collective efforts can have in addressing local needs and challenges.
Hon. John Zerucelli, Secretary of State (Labour) and MP for Etobicoke North, said, “This is more than a walk. It’s a reminder of what service really looks like. It’s showing up, giving back, and standing together. It reflects the spirit of BAPS Charities, a belief that by helping others, we help ourselves and everyone around us through events like this. BAPS Charities empowers individuals to volunteer their time. Everyone who organized this event is a volunteer. It’s their energy, their resources to build a better community, a stronger community, and a more compassionate world.”
Councillor Vincent Crisanti, City of Toronto, said, “BAPS Charities’ commitment to selfless service and bettering the community is second to none. It’s amazing work that they do. Your dedication and this compassion are greatly appreciated and are felt across the whole city. We are very proud of your countless contributions that make Toronto a great, great place to live.”
Allison Smith, Director, Campaign for William Osler Health System Foundation, said, “I am just honoured and thrilled to be here. We are so grateful for your support…BAPS Charities of Canada has been a friend of Osler for many years. All the way through the pandemic, when you stepped up with donations of critical PPE, as well as coming to distribute flowers to our physicians and staff to lift their spirits. You also worked with Osler on a pop up Covid-19 vaccination clinic. The community benefited greatly. We are grateful for your ongoing support, including today, through the Spirit of Service Walkathon.”
Daniel Moore, Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnership for CNIB Foundation, said, “Our mission is to change what it is to be blind in Canada for all Canadians, no matter your age or background. On behalf of everyone at CNIB, I want to thank you for choosing our charity as a recipient of your support today and for supporting our important mission through your act of service and fellowship.”
