COVID-19 Pandemic: Donation of $2500 to Second Servings to Help Fight Hunger in Houston, TX

Access to a hearty and nutritious meal has become a challenge for many families as ancillary impacts from the COVID19 pandemic are realized across the greater Houston area. On April 30, 2020, BAPS Charities donated $2500 and 250 boxed meals joining volunteers of  Second Servings to Help Fight Hunger.

In a large parking lot along Avenidas de las Americas Drive, across the iconic George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston, over twenty volunteers from Second Servings had set up a drive-through facility to serve boxed-meals to families facing food scarcity concerns. The organization aims to redirect unserved and unsold food from Houston-area retailers, sports venues, distributors, hotels, etc., to those in need.  On this sunny Thursday afternoon, a small group of inspired volunteers was distributing meals in a safe and organized manner.

BAPS Charities volunteers joined the Second Servings volunteers to support their thoughtful and dedicated efforts and to offer an impactful monetary contribution to their cause. “Your generous support will help us provide over 250 boxed meals over the course of the day to people who need assistance. Each box actually represents eight meal servings, which can help provide two full meals for a family.” Remarked Barbara Bronstein, the Founder & President at Second Servings. “Thank you so much for your support at this challenging time.”

In his reflection on the morning spent to support this inspiring organization, BAPS Charities’ volunteer Kalpesh Patel said, “It is always a rewarding experience to stand side-by-side with volunteers who are guided by the same principles as those reflected in BAPS Charities motto – The Spirit of Selfless Service.” Beyond the donations, BAPS Charities has organized and implemented several online awareness campaigns for the community on how to stay healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. BAPS Charities volunteers throughout the world are assessing situations and providing support to help local communities. More details on www.bapscharities.org/covid-19/
