COVID-19 Pandemic: Hot meals served to Health Care Professionals in Pennsylvania

As the United States is confronted with the COVID-19 pandemic challenges, food accessibility continues to be a growing concern, especially for frontline health professionals serving the public around the clock. As one of its ongoing initiatives, BAPS Charities has been distributing hot vegetarian meals to these heroes throughout Pennsylvania on a weekly basis.

On May 10, 2020, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) joined BAPS Charities volunteers to deliver 170 hot vegetarian meals providing nourishment and comfort to healthcare professionals at St. Luke’s Hospital, Quakertown, PA; Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, PA; and, Doylestown Health, Doylestown, PA.

“I applaud BAPS Charities for their commendable efforts to serve the community all over the world. We are fortunate to have their strong presence right here in our district”, said Congressman Fitzpatrick.

Jim Brexler,  President and CEO of Doylestown Health, expressed his gratitude when accepting the hot meals on behalf of the hospital saying, “It’s heartwarming to experience the support we have been receiving from the community during this crisis. We thank BAPS Charities and Congressman Fitzpatrick for delivering the food and wonderful greeting cards prepared by future heroes for the heroes working at the hospital”

Dr. Jane Ferry, Chief Medical Officer at Grand View Hospital added, “It’s so nice of you to bring this freshly cooked food to us.”

Assisting in the efforts was Pooja Patel, a high school senior in the Central Bucks School District.  In expressing her motivation to help, she remarked, “I consider this an honor to come here and support our health care professionals. It felt like the right thing to do as they are constantly working and trying their best to help those in need during these tough times, so it felt right helping the health care professionals.”

BAPS Charities is grateful to its volunteers for effectively providing assistance to health care workers. Volunteers in locations across the United States and the world continue to assess the situation in their local communities to provide crucial support.
