COVID-19 Pandemic: Donations to slum residents, April 2020 – Nakuru, Kenya

On 5th April 2020, BAPS Charities Kenya carried out distribution of food packages to the biggest slum area in Nakuru County called Bondeni slums. The donations were intended to assist the residents facing food shortages during the partial lock-down in the country following the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The donations were also done in conjunction with Hindu Council of Kenya and Lions Club.

Bondeni being the biggest slum in Nakuru County, is home to more than 4,000 residents. During this time of uncertainty and food insecurity, the residents were overwhelmed with the humanitarian service of the volunteers.

The food packages included 1 kg Maize Meal, 1 kg Rice, 1 kg Green Grams, 500 grams Cooking fat and 600 grams Bar soap. Approximately 2600 such packages were distributed, one package per household. The BAPS Charities volunteers went from home to home distributing the packages to the doorsteps of the residents.
