On Wednesday, 16 April 2014, BAPS Charities held an eye screening clinic at the Barcelona township community in Daveyton, north-east of Johannesburg. The community, historically disadvantaged and without access to basic medical facilities, lack access to medical professionals to treat health related matters. Eye screenings assist in identifying potential eye problems in the patient. Selected BAPS Charities volunteers, who are Optometrists by profession, screened 76 patients with suspected eye-related problems. 19 Children and 57 Adults made up the total number. As a result of the screening, 23 patients have been referred to a proper eye hospital clinic for further medical treatment.
