BAPS Charities UK held a women’s community sports day – the Prapti Tournament – on Saturday 21 June 2025 at Queens’ School in Bushey, Watford.
The event brought together women of all ages from the community to enjoy a day of spirited competition, sporting integrity, and community bonding.
The tournament coincided with the International Day of Yoga, thus fittingly beginning with a relaxing yoga session that included various stretches and breathing exercises.
More than 250 participants aged between 34 and 85 from various towns and cities across the UK joined together for this multi-sports tournament.
The 28 teams competed in various team sports, including netball and rounders, as well as a series of track and field events. Each team consisted of a mixture of ages and demonstrated enthusiasm, teamwork, and fair play.
The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. Many participants enjoyed revisiting sports they had played in their younger years, creating a sense of nostalgia and camaraderie.
Everyone was eager to take part in both team games and individual races.
The netball semi-finals and final kept everyone captivated. Overall, the games were closely contested, and the results could not have been more tightly matched.
Wellingborough A won the tournament’s gold medal by a single point from West London A, who finished second. Watford C claimed third prize.
Alongside the friendly competitiveness, the day was filled with a strong sense of community spirit, unity, fitness, and fun, reinforcing the power of sport in bringing people together. Supported by over 50 dedicated volunteers, the event celebrated the importance of teamwork and promoted an active lifestyle for all, regardless of age, experience, or ability.
Reema Patel, a volunteer at the event, shared, “Our aim was to bring people together to create an environment where all women felt comfortable to get active, have fun, and spend a day for themselves. I really felt like we achieved this, and it was so great to see so much support, unity, and encouragement whilst enjoying these games and sports.”
Seema Shah, a participant, added, “It was a great day and refreshing that there was no age limit to participate, which helped various generations bond. The mixed age groups provided plenty of enthusiasm, and we were all not only welcomed but also encouraged to join in. It was a wonderful day for everyone.”
