The Department of Emergency Medicine at University of California San Francisco (UCSF)

The Department of Emergency Medicine at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) consists of approximately 50 faculty and 12 academic staff based at UCSF Medical Center and SFGH. UCSF-Fresno has 20 faculty. Many of our faculty are recognized as national and international leaders in emergency medicine research and education, as well as scientific publishing and health policy. 93,000 patients a year are treated in the Emergency Departments of UCSF Medical Center (UCSF) and San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) combined, creating an unparalleled undifferentiated patient population and contributing 30% and 65% of total admissions to their respective hospitals. SFGH is the county's only trauma center, and UCSF provides the full resources of one of the nation's leading tertiary care referral centers. Emergency Medicine faculty play a major role in local and regional disaster planning as well as leadership in San Francisco Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Poison Control Center.
